Buried in Beauty/Smothered by Colors ExHibit

Opening Thursday, 7/9, from 5-9pm, Eleven:Eleven is hosting a dynamic dual opening reception featuring two incredible artists: Twyla Sampaco and Joe Axler.

Twyla Sampaco presents "Buried in Beauty / Smothered by Colors", a deeply evocative photographic exhibition. This body of work is a daydreaming analog chronicle of Hot Depression Summers and Manic Springs. Through her lens, we are taken on roadtrips and great escapes, exploring the homecomings and home building of a prodigal sun. The collection intimately follows a chronically depressed optimist wandering through scenes that feel unbearable, mundane, and sublime in the wake of rupture. This visual journey will be on exhibition from 7/9 through 08/30/2026. Additional events for this show include a second reception on Thursday, 8/13 from 5-9pm, and a special Book Launch on Sunday, 8/23 from Noon-3pm. We are also proud to share that this project is supported in part by 4Culture and Artist Trust.

Running concurrently with Sampaco’s photography is a striking fine art pop-up by Joe Axler, titled "26 Miles East of Prineville". This companion pop-up features a curated selection of Axler's distinctive painted skull pieces. The showcase includes profound work developed during his recent residencies at Blue Cone Studios and at Sou'wester Arts Week in 2025. Visitors will have the opportunity to view Joe’s pop-up exhibitions during the Capitol Hill Art Walk on both 7/9 and 8/13.

We invite you to join us at the gallery to experience these two contrasting yet beautifully complementary bodies of work.
